Finally, all things settled!  I passed the comprehensive exam, and now I am a PhD Candidate or what here calls, ABD (All But Dissertation).  No more exam in the rest of my life unless I change my major to some other professional fields @___@ . . .

This morning I received an email from UK:

Dear all,

Thank you for your proposals for the Second International Conference on
Music and Gesture. The programme committee has constructed the programme
(attached for your information). Unfortunately, we have not included
your paper in the programme of events as it stands.

However:
1: we would like you to consider submitting your paper as a POSTER at
the conference. Posters will be included in the CD-ROM of official
conference proceedings. There will be time set aside during the
conference specifically for the perusal of posters. You are not required
to attend the conference in order to have your POSTER displayed, but you
may wish to respond to other delegates' comments.
2: if speakers drop out between now and the conference and we are
presented with a space in the programme in which your paper would sit
neatly alongside the other papers in its session, then we will contact
you individually and ask whether you would be prepared to present your
work as a full paper in the programme of events. The conference
programme will be updated as and when to accommodate any such changes.

In due course:
Elaine King will contact you regarding the procedures / format /
deadline for submitting your POSTER for the CD-ROM of official
conference proceedings. She will also contact you regarding the physical
format / space of posters.
I will contact you regarding the booking form for registration and
accommodation, if you are intending to attend the conference with your
poster.

In the meantime:
If you have any questions regarding the programme or conference
proceedings, please contact Elaine: e.c.king@hull.ac.uk .
If you have any questions regarding practical arrangements
(accomodation, travel etc.), please contact me.

It is interesting that I wait this for a long time but it just arrives after I passed my comp exam!  When I think I am free for my Messiaen dissertation, a new challenging thing comes!  At first, I am a bit disappointed as I can't have a real presentation and meet those important scholars.  However, after some time, I think it is a super good plan for me.  At this moment, when I am still familiar with the paper, I just need to revise and add a big portion in order to fit the conference topic.  Meanwhile, I still have a chance to go if some one give up their presentation offer and if my paper fits that session, then they will ask me to go to present in real time.  As a result, on one hand I can earn this credit and add one more line in my CV; on the other hand, I don't need to travel and concentrate on my dissertation during the summer in HK!!!  See, God's plan is so PERFECT!!!

I see Ming Lun in the library and he is so happy.  Then I ask him why you are so happy, then he says to me that because I am free of exam now and feel very relax, so he is happy because of I am happy ^__^  So nice!!!

Spring break officially begins from today till this Friday.  We also hold a pre-birthday party for wwy (which should be on this Friday).  We make many many food:

Dinner Menu

1)                 Potato, corn and tuna salad

　

2)                 Honey chicken wings

This oven in the social room is not good/hot enough, which can't make the skin very golden ~__~

　

3)                 Pancake in Wing Yin’s style

Very crispy

　

4)                 Summer rolls

Shrimp (very crispy), cucumber, carrot, avocado, 蟹柳 & 米粉

eat with Korean chili sauce and 花生沙嗲醬

　

5)                 Cauliflower with bacon cream sauce

　

6)                 XO sauce fried rice

Egg, sausage, shrimp, scallop, pineapple, and of course the most important thing, XO sauce

　

7)                 Asparagus beef roll

　

8)                 Celery with blue cheese sauce

　

9)                 Dessert

Still have rooms for improvement about the texture of the cake. 

But it is already very nice!  Really can't find this in Buffalo for the similar kind of cake ~__~

Finally settled the air-tickets for my conference trip:

3/17 Morning:      to Princeton, NJ

3/17 Afternoon:   to conference venue

3/17 Evening:       to hotel

3/18 Morning:       my presentation

3/18 Afternoon:    to New York City, stay @ Chia-En's home until 3/20 morning

3/20 Noon:             back to Buffalo

But just one day difference, I have to pay almost USD 40 more!

I hate the thing that is mine but which is not totally controlled by myself.

Conference presentation in my own stuff, why needs to involve other people in my trip?  I don't mind any people join but it is not a holiday trip.  It is MAINLY my conference presentation trip!  Driving, yes, I don't like, especially I need to present my paper.  I don't want to waste my energy and concentration.  No matter what, I would like to take a flight!

Now, all the things have been held up and not yet settled (thou I have booked my hotel room during the presentation days) because of the original assumption becomes not available.

American time b-day . . .

Morning time, finally go to church.  I feel some difficulties in playing violin again . . . big wok!  one evidence of showing me is simply getting OLD.

Besides these, we still have children's love -- American cheese & pepperoni pizza, as well as Celery with Blue Cheese. Also, 我的招牌朱古力咖啡 (but this time no whipped cream because of tooooooo FATTY already)

Due to the heavy meals after exam and after this "b-day dinner," we decide to go to GYM!  I walk 40 min (2.5 miles) . . . 腳趾公起了水泡 ~__~

All written exams are finally done on Mar 1 evening . . . now is waiting for the oral defense on 3/22 (9-11am).
